When we ask: “Am I trying to be the center or am I pointing people to Jesus?”, we make space for honest confession before God and before the community. John did not place himself as the credential of salvation; he recognized the role of announcing the coming Savior, and so we are also called to announce Christ in concrete acts of love, prayer, and faithfulness. The central idea is clear: the dimming of the ego so that Christ may increase, in words and deeds.
