The story of Zacchaeus shows us that seeking Jesus requires effort and determination, even when circumstances seem difficult. He was a short man, and the crowd blocked his view of the Lord, but this did not discourage him. Instead of giving up, Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed a tree just to catch a glimpse of Jesus (Luke 19:3-4). His attitude teaches us that when we truly desire to encounter Christ, no obstacle can stop us. We must have this same determination, even when attending church feels challenging or maintaining faith seems hard amid life's struggles.
Often, we allow life's difficulties to pull us away from God's presence. The busyness of daily life, personal problems, or even exhaustion can make us question whether it's worth pressing on. Yet Zacchaeus reminds us that Jesus is always passing by our path, and it's up to us to position ourselves to see Him. He didn't wait for perfect conditions—he did what he could with what he had. Similarly, even if our worship isn't perfect or our church attendance isn't consistent, what matters is that we seek God with whatever we can offer, right where we are.
When Zacchaeus made the effort to see Jesus, he didn't just see Him—he was seen and called by the Lord. Jesus stopped, looked at him, and said, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today" (Luke 19:5). This encounter changed his life forever. In the same way, when we strive to seek God, even in our limitations, He meets us along the way. It doesn't matter how small or incapable we feel; what matters is the sincere desire of our hearts.
Today, we are challenged to seek Jesus with all our strength, even when the journey feels hard. We don't need perfect faith or ideal circumstances—we just need to do what we can, as Zacchaeus did. If we draw near to Him with humility and persistence, we will surely experience a life-changing encounter. May we, each day, run toward Christ, climb over whatever obstacles stand in our way, and receive the grace that only He can give.
