Jesus made it clear in Luke 14:26 that following Him requires a loyalty that surpasses even the deepest and most natural bonds of the human heart. He isn't calling us to abandon our families or neglect our responsibilities, but to recognize that He must occupy the central place in our lives. When we put God first, everything else finds its proper balance. True discipleship begins when we understand that no love, no relationship, and no desire can be above our commitment to Christ.
Putting God first means prioritizing His will even when it contradicts our plans or expectations. We're often tempted to seek security in people, achievements, or material possessions, but Jesus reminds us that only He is worthy of our complete devotion. When we exalt Him above all else, our lives gain new meaning, and we begin to live not for our own interests but for the purpose He has for us. This decision isn't easy, but it's essential for anyone who wants to be a true follower of Christ.
Authentic Christian life requires surrender. Jesus never promised the path would be comfortable; on the contrary, He warned it would be narrow and demanding. Yet when we put Him first, we discover that He meets all our needs and guides us with wisdom. The things that once seemed indispensable lose their value in light of His presence. Our families, our work, and our dreams aren't abandoned but realigned under the perspective of God's Kingdom.
Today, we're challenged to examine our hearts and ask: "Who or what comes first in my life?" If we find something occupying the place that belongs to God alone, it's time to adjust our priorities. When He is at the center, everything around us becomes clearer, and our journey gains direction and peace. May we, as true disciples, love Christ above all else, trusting that He will take care of the rest. After all, only those who put Him first experience the fullness of life He promised.
