Blessing or Delusion?

How often do we desperately seek God's blessing while stubbornly clinging to paths that lead us away from Him? We long for divine favor yet refuse to surrender our own will, as if we could bargain with the Holy One. Deuteronomy 29:19 warns of this peril: "When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, 'I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way,' they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry."

It is a deadly deception to believe we can live in rebellion and still expect God's protection. Our deceitful hearts whisper that small compromises don't matter, that God will bless despite our disobedience. But Scripture is clear: those who turn from the Lord to follow their own desires will reap ruin, not peace.

Israel learned this painfully. They wanted God's promises but wouldn't abandon Egypt's idols. They craved the land flowing with milk and honey, yet grumbled in the wilderness. How often do we do the same? We beg for blessing but resist holiness. We demand miracles but reject transformation.

God doesn't negotiate His will. His blessings aren't bargaining chips to accommodate our sins. They flow when we walk in covenant, when our hearts are fully turned toward Him. It's futile to invoke blessings while our feet march toward disobedience.

Today demands heart examination. What have we placed above God? What areas of life do we withhold? If we truly want His blessing, we must abandon the delusion of serving two masters. The choice is stark: blessing through obedience or disaster through self-rule. May we dare to plead not just for favors, but for hearts wholly His.
