The Truth That Connects Us to the Father

In chapter 8 of the Gospel of John, Jesus reveals profound truths about His identity and mission, directly confronting those who refused to believe in Him. By stating that He came from God the Father, Jesus not only claims His divinity but also exposes the spiritual nature of those who reject Him. He says, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me" (John 8:42). In these words, Jesus makes it clear that His origin is divine and that His obedience to the Father is perfect. He does not act on His own but faithfully fulfills the will of the One who sent Him.

However, the rejection of Jesus by some reveals a sad reality: their spiritual distance from God. Jesus states that their inability to understand and accept His words is a sign that they are not children of God but rather children of the devil, the father of lies. He says, "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44). This statement is shocking but necessary, as it exposes the nature of sin and rebellion against God. The devil is described as a murderer from the beginning, an enemy of truth, and the source of all lies. Those who follow his ways are aligned with deception and destruction.

In light of this, the passage invites us to reflect on our own spiritual condition. Are we steadfast in Jesus, recognizing Him as the Son of God sent by the Father? Or are we, even subtly, allowing the enemy’s lies to pull us away from Him? Jesus is the truth incarnate, and only in Him can we find life and a true connection with the Father. When we stand firm in Him, we have the assurance that we are children of God, loved and guided by His truth.

May this text inspire us to examine our hearts and cling even more to Jesus, the One sent by the Father. May we listen to His voice, believe in His words, and live in obedience to the truth He reveals. In this way, we will be truly connected to the Father, enjoying the abundant life that only He can offer.
