In the book of Genesis, we encounter an intimate moment after the death of Jacob, where Joseph's brothers express their fears. Genesis 50:15 says, "When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, 'What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?'"
This passage reveals the protective role that the father played in their lives. We can't help but pause and reflect here. Are we, like Joseph's brothers, fearful when we forget that we have an Almighty Heavenly Father who stands by us, shielding us?
When we allow our past transgressions to haunt us, we tend to forget that we serve a forgiving God who has already dealt with our transgressions. The prophet Micah in Micah 7:19 reminds us, "He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea." Such is the magnitude of His love that He not only forgives but forgets our sins.
Joseph, whose heart was with God, serves as a model for us. He did not seek revenge but choose to offer grace and mercy. We too are called to do the same - to forgive those who have wronged us, to forget past failures, and to extend the hand of mercy to our brethren.
Today, as you step out into the world, remember that you serve an Almighty God who loves, forgives, and forgets our past mistakes. Do not allow your past to frighten you, for God has thrown all your sins into the sea of forgetfulness. Extend this grace to those around you, forgiving and forgetting their past wrongs just as God has done for you.
May your day be filled with the peace of knowing you are forgiven and the joy of extending that forgiveness to others.
