The Sublime Presence of God in Obedience

When we obey God, something extraordinary happens: He accepts our lives through the sacrifice of Jesus and comes to meet us. It is as if the heavens open and divine glory touches the earth, enveloping us in His marvelous presence. Imagine what it must have been like for the people of Israel, after so many deliverances and provisions, to finally hear the voice of God and offer the sacrifices as He had commanded. That moment was marked by a sublime sensation, a divine approval that resonated in the heart of every person present.

In Leviticus 9:22-24, we see a powerful picture of this reality. After offering the sacrifices, Aaron lifted his hands over the people and blessed them. Then, he and Moses entered the Tent of Meeting, and when they came out to bless the people, something glorious happened: the Glory of the Lord appeared before everyone. A powerful flame flashed from the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. The people, in awe, could not contain their joy. Shouts of jubilation and praise erupted, and everyone fell facedown, recognizing the majesty and holiness of God.

This moment teaches us something profound about obedience and surrender. When we stand before God in holiness, offering our lives as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1), He manifests Himself in a powerful way. Obedience opens the way for His presence, and that presence transforms everything around us. Just as the fire consumed the sacrifice on the altar, the Holy Spirit desires to consume our lives, purifying us and filling us with His glory.

Today, we no longer need to offer animal sacrifices, for Jesus has become the perfect and eternal sacrifice for us. However, the essence of that moment in the wilderness still echoes in our hearts: when we obey God and surrender our lives to Him, His presence becomes real and transformative. May we, like the people of Israel, experience the sublime joy of feeling the Glory of the Lord in our lives, recognizing that He is worthy of all honor, praise, and worship.

May today, as we stand before Him, we hear His voice, obey His commands, and feel the fire of His love consuming everything that is not of Him. And, just as on that day, may our response be one of jubilation, praise, and deep reverence, for the Lord is good, and His mercy endures forever.
