God's Mysterious Plans

Reading the book of Genesis, we come across an unusual event in Genesis 48:20. The patriarch Israel, also known as Jacob, blesses the sons of Joseph, Ephraim, and Manasseh, in a surprising way. He places his right hand on the younger Ephraim and his left hand on the older Manasseh, signifying a greater blessing on the younger over the elder. This action was not arbitrary. It was a divine orchestration that held a deep spiritual significance.

"Israel said, ‘May you be as Ephraim and Manasseh to the people of Israel. May you bless them with these words: May God make you as Ephraim and Manasseh!’ He put Ephraim before Manasseh." - Genesis 48:20

Jacob's action may seem intriguing and even confusing, much like the occurrences in our lives. But it holds a profound truth about the nature of God's plans— they are not always as we expect them to be. God often uses the least expected, the 'younger' or the 'smaller' in human terms, to achieve His grand purposes.

God's preference for Ephraim, the less expected one, is a symbol of His favour for Israel, a nation otherwise seen as incapable of becoming great. It shows us that God is the one who equips and enables. He takes who He wills and positions them where He wills, even if it seems unlikely to human understanding.

The reaction of Joseph, akin to our reactions when God places us in unexpected positions, is a reminder that all we are and have is thanks to God's favour.

Reflect on this today. Where is God placing you that you never expected? What are the 'smaller' things in your life that God may be using for a great purpose? Remember, God’s ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).

So, let’s embrace the unexpected twists and turns of life, trusting that they are part of God's mysterious and wonderful plan for us. Let's be ready for the Ephraim moments when God, in his sovereignty, surprises us, takes us out of our comfort zone, and uses us for His Glory.

May God's favour rest upon you today and always. May He guide you, equip you, and place you exactly where you need to be for His glory. Have a blessed day.
